Integrating the Digital Paradigm in Higher Education:
ICT Training and Skills of University Students in a European Context

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to analyse the basic digital skills of university students. A sample of 490 students of two degrees from a Spanish university was used from the 2013/14 to 2016/17 academic year. The methodology is descriptive of a quantitative nature. The data were collected by means of the questionnaire called "Basic digital competences 2.0 of the university students" COBADI® (Registered trademark: 2970648). The statistical analysis provided information on how students use the Internet and digital technologies. Among the results obtained it could be determined that a high percentage of the respondents were connected to the Internet more than 9 hours a week. The most frequently used means of connection is the computer, at home, and the smartphone. A significant finding is that, in the case of men, there is a decrease in time spent on academic tasks in favour of time spent on videogames.

formación y aptitudes sobre las TIC de estudiantes universitarios en un contexto europeo.
Resumen: El objetivo principal de este estudio es analizar las habilidades digitales básicas de los estudiantes universitarios. Se utilizó una muestra de 490 estudiantes de dos carreras de una universidad española durante los cursos académicos 2013/14 a 2016/17. La metodología empleada fue descriptiva de carácter cuantitativo. Los datos fueron recogidos mediante el cuestionario denominado "Competencias digitales básicas 2.0 de los estudiantes universitarios" COBADI® (Marca registrada: 2970648). El análisis estadístico proporcionó información sobre cómo los estudiantes utilizan Internet y las tecnologías digitales. Entre los resultados obtenidos se pudo determinar que un alto porcentaje de los encuestados se conectaba a Internet más de 9 horas a la semana. Los medios de conexión más utilizados fueron el ordenador de la casa y el smartphone. Un hallazgo significativo fue que, en el caso de los hombres, existe una disminución del tiempo dedicado a las tareas académicas a favor del tiempo dedicado a los videojuegos.
