Why is it important to fill out the FAFSA

• Every year, starting on October 1st, you can fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must have at hand yours and your parent’s income information (copy of tax returns) if you are a dependent. You also need to have your FAFSA username and password known as the FAFSA ID, which you can get from the same website where you apply. That way, the U.S. Department of Education can determine your eligibility for the different financial aid programs. It is important to fill out the FAFSA every year because many of the scholarships and financial aid offered use the FAFSA as a parameter to distribute the aid.
