El Programa Educativo de Intérpretes (IEP por sus siglas en inglés) tiene como objetivo desarrollar las habilidades profesionales de interpretación en lenguaje de señas, para cumplir con los más altos estándares, en las áreas temáticas de salud, educación y legal, de acuerdo con las necesidades lingüísticas y culturales de cada entorno de interpretación.
A través del IEP se impactará a 148 intérpretes profesionales con más de tres años de experiencia, que conozcan el lenguaje de señas puertorriqueño (PRSL por sus siglas en inglés) y puedan ofrecer sus servicios a la comunidad sorda y sordociega de la isla.
El IEP inició en el año 2021. El primer módulo (área temática de Educación) se estará ofreciendo a partir del 27 de marzo del 2023.
La matrícula será cubierta por el Proyecto y los(as) seleccionados(as) podrán cursar el/los módulos de su interés, a través de la Plataforma Moodle. Los participantes tendrán hasta seis meses para poder concluir cada módulo y contarán con la mentoría de profesionales de la interpretación del lenguaje de señas.
Al concluir cada módulo, recibirán un certificado del Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), tramitado por el Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (FRID). De igual forma, recibirán un certificado de Educación Continua de la Universidad Ana G. Méndez.

The Interpreter Education Program (IEP) aims to develop professional sign language interpreting skills, to meet the highest standards, in the thematic areas of health, education and legal, in accordance with the linguistic and cultural needs of each interpreting environment.
Through the IEP, 148 professional interpreters with more than three years of experience, who know Puerto Rican Sign Language (PRSL) and can offer their services to the island's deaf and deafblind community, will be impacted.
The IEP began in 2021. The first module (Education subject area) will be offered from March 27, 2023.
The registration will be covered by the Project and the selected students will be able to take the module(s) of their interest, through the Moodle Platform. Participants will have up to six months to complete each module and will be mentored by professional sign language interpreters.
At the end of each module, the participants received a certificate from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), processed by the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (FRID). Likewise, you will receive a certificate of Continuing Education from Ana G. Méndez University.

Josué García Torres, MRCc, BBA
Director
El profesor Josué García Torres es el director del Programa Educativo de Intérpretes (IEP, por sus siglas en inglés) en la Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Departamento de Educación en Gurabo, Puerto Rico.
Cuenta con más de ocho años de experiencia en el campo de la interpretación y participación como defensor, educador y facilitador de comunidades Sordas y personas con Diversidad Funcional. El profesor García Torres posee un bachillerato con concentración en Administración de Oficinas y Tecnología de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Ponce (UPRP), donde completó estudios en Lengua de Señas a nivel introductorio, intermedio y avanzado. Actualmente, está completando una maestría en Consejería de Rehabilitación de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras (UPRRP), donde investiga sobre la pérdida auditiva y el lenguaje de señas como elemento de inclusión y exclusión.
El Profesor García Torres aspira a continuar ayudando a las comunidades Sordas a identificar recursos y preparar profesionales competentes para servirles.
Josué García Torres, MRCc, BBA
Director
Professor Josué García Torres is the director of the Interpreter Educational Program (IEP) at the Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Department of Education in Gurabo, Puerto Rico.
He has more than eight years of experience in the field of interpretation and involvement as an advocate, educator, and facilitator of Deaf communities and people with Functional Diversity. Professor García Torres holds a bacheloor’s degree with a major in Office Administration and Technologies from the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce (UPRP), where he completed studies in Sign Language at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. Currently, he is completing a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (UPRRP), where he is researching hearing loss and sign language as an element of inclusion and exclusion.
Professor García Torres aspires to continue to assist Deaf communities in identifying resources and preparing competent professionals to serve them.

Doctora en Educación por el Instituto Universitario Internacional de Toluca (IUIT) de México [homologado como EdD. por el World Educational Services (WES) de Estados Unidos]. Tiene una maestría en Mediación para la Igualdad de Oportunidades en la Participación Social y en el Empleo de la Universidad Jaume I de Castellón, España y una Maestría en Psicología Clínica por la Universidad de La Habana, Cuba; así como una Licenciatura en Psicología por la Universidad de La Habana, Cuba. Posee una Certificación en Aprendizaje Socioemocional por la Compañía A+ Education and Consulting Solutions de Puerto Rico y una Certificación como Especialista en Educación Virtual de la Federación Internacional de Especialistas (FINTES). Posee 21 años de experiencia como profesora universitaria.

She has a Master's degree in Mediation for Equal Opportunities in Social Participation and Employment from the Jaume I University of Castellón, Spain and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Havana, Cuba; as well as a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Havana, Cuba. He has a Certification in Social-Emotional Learning from the A+ Education and Consulting Solutions Company of Puerto Rico and a Certification as a Specialist in Virtual Education from the International Federation of Specialists (FINTES). 21 years of experience as a university professor.

Susanne Morgan Morrow, MA, CI, CT
Directora del Proyecto New York Deaf-Blind Collaborative (NYDBC)
Susanne (Susie) es la directora de proyectos de New York Deaf-Blind Collaborative, una subvención financiada con fondos federales para niños y adultos jóvenes sordociegos en el estado de Nueva York. También es intérprete de lenguaje de señas certificada a nivel nacional. La carrera de Susie comenzó dentro de la comunidad de adultos sordociegos en el Centro Nacional Helen Keller, hace más de 25 años. A partir de esas experiencias directas, pasó a trabajar en el proyecto nacional de sordoceguera, donde se centró en temas como la autodeterminación, la defensa y la planificación de la transición para adultos jóvenes sordociegos.
Susie ha brindado servicios de interpretación y coordinación en una diversidad de escenarios durante los últimos 25 años para personas sordas y sordociegas, incluyendo conferencias regionales, nacionales e internacionales, instituciones académicas superiores, así como representaciones musicales y teatrales. Ella es la desarrolladora principal del módulo Introducción al Lenguaje de Señas y Braille, parte de la serie de módulos de intervención Open Hands, Open Access desarrollada por el Centro Nacional de Sordoceguera. Susie es capacitadora nacional en una multitud de temas relacionados con el acceso y la educación de personas sordociegas e intérpretes. Además, es profesora adjunta en la Universidad Estatal de Montclair en NJ en el Programa de Educación de Intérpretes.
Susanne Morgan Morrow, MA, CI, CT
Project Director of the New York Deaf-Blind Collaborative (NYDBC).
Susanne (Susie) is the Project Director of the New York Deaf-Blind Collaborative, a federally funded grant for children and young adults who are deaf-blind in New York State and is also a nationally certified Sign Language Interpreter. Susie’s career started within the Deaf Blind adult community at Helen Keller National Center, for over 25 years. From those direct experiences she then went on to work on the national deaf-blind project where she focused on topics such as self-determination, advocacy and transition planning for young adults who are deaf-blind.
Susie has provided interpreting and coordinating services in a wide array of venues over the past 25 years for Deaf and Deaf Blind people, including regional, national and international conferences, higher academia, as well as music and theatrical performances. She is the lead developer of the Introduction to Sign Language and Braille module, part of the Open Hands, Open Access intervener module series developed by the National Center on Deaf-Blindness. Susie is a national trainer on a multitude of topics related to access and education of individuals who are Deaf Blind and interpreting. She is also an adjunct instructor at Montclair State University in NJ in the Interpreter Education Program.

Arlene Narváez (RID CI, CT)

Posee la certificación del Registro de Intérpretes para Sordos de Estados Unidos (RID por sus siglas en inglés), para interpretación y transliteración (RID CI, CT – por sus siglas en inglés). Ha enseñado como instructora adjunta a nivel de colegio comunitario y ha coordinado servicios para varios campus y eventos. Actualmente, trabaja como intérprete trilingüe y bilingüe [Lenguaje de Señas Americano (ASL - por sus siglas en inglés) /español/inglés)] en entornos comunitarios y de video, y como consultora. Ha presentado talleres a nivel regional y nacional. Además de trabajar como evaluadora y capacitadora de intérpretes, participó en el desarrollo de la Guía del plan de estudios del Consorcio Nacional de Centros de Formación de Intérpretes de Estados Unidos (NCIEC, por sus siglas en inglés) sobre interpretación en entornos con influencia del español, materiales y recursos de video, y fue miembro del Grupo de trabajo trilingüe de NCIEC.
Arlene Narvaez (RID CI, CT)

She is certified by the United States Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), for interpretation and transliteration (RID CI, CT). She has taught as an adjunct instructor at the community college level and has coordinated services for various campuses and events. Currently, she works as a trilingual and bilingual [American Sign Language (ASL)/Spanish/English)] interpreter in community and video settings, and as a consultant. He has presented workshops at the regional and national levels. In addition to working as an interpreter evaluator and trainer, she participated in the development of the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC) Curriculum Guide on Interpreting in Spanish-Influenced Settings, materials, and video resources, and was a member of the NCIEC Trilingual workgroup.

Méndez. Labora como docente en el Departamento de Educación de Puerto Rico, en la Escuela Especializada en Idiomas, Alcides Figueroa en Añasco. Le apasiona educar, compartir su forma de ser, transmitir valores e inspirar a sus alumnos a ser mejores cada día. Considera que su rol como docente y diseñadora instruccional es construir un ambiente agradable y estimulante para potenciar las habilidades de los estudiantes y facilitar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje.

She has a bachelor's degree in School Health Education from the Interamerican University San Germán Campus and a master's degree in Instructional Design with E-learning Technology from the Ana G. Méndez University. She works as a teacher in the Puerto Rico Department of Education, at the Alcides Figueroa Specialized Language School in Añasco. Is passionate about educating, sharing her way of being, transmitting values and inspiring her students to be better every day. She considers that her role as a teacher and instructional designer is to build a pleasant and stimulating environment to enhance student skills and facilitate the teaching-learning process.

Actualmente se desempeña como instructor de tecnología radiológica en NUC University. Es licenciado bajo el ARRT en tecnología radiológica y posee cuatro años de experiencia en la docencia a grados asociados. Realizó un grado de bachillerato en imágenes diagnósticas con la especialidad de sonografía médica y vascular en la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico Recinto de Ponce. Decidió continuar su desarrollo profesional y actualmente se encuentra culminando la maestría en educación enfocada en el diseño instruccional con e-learning en la Universidad Ana G. Méndez.
Elionai Vargas Quiros
Instructional Designer
He currently serves as a Radiologic Technology Instructor at NUC University. He is licensed under the ARRT in radiologic technology and has four years of teaching experience at associate degrees. He completed a bachelor's degree in diagnostic imaging with the specialty of medical and vascular sonography at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. He decided to continue his professional development and is currently completing a master’s degree in education focused on instructional design with e-learning at Ana G. Méndez University.
Paola N. Cortés Guerrero

Nacida en Moca, Puerto Rico, obtuvo un bachillerato en la Enseñanza de Inglés como Segundo Idioma con Integración de Tecnología y Multimedios de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Aguadilla. Además, completó 21 créditos en cursos de Tecnología Instruccional. Realizó una maestría en Educación, con especialidad en Diseño Instruccional e Integración Tecnológica con E-Learning. Su tiempo lo dedica a la creación y desarrollo en las áreas de Diseño Instruccional, con el fin de crear módulos instruccionales atractivos e interactivos. En adición, se encuentra desarrollando su propia tienda virtual con el propósito de dar a conocer materiales educativos interactivos y accesibles a educadores. Por otra parte, ofrece clases virtuales de inglés como segundo idioma. En su tiempo libre le gusta leer distinta literatura. Espera que, con el paso del tiempo, marque la diferencia dentro y fuera del Sistema Educativo de Puerto Rico.

Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, she obtained a bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language with Integration of Technology and Multimedia from the University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla. In addition, she completed 21 credits in Instructional Technology courses. She completed a master's degree in Education, specializing in Instructional Design and Technological Integration with E-Learning. Her time is dedicated to the creation and development in the areas of Instructional Design, in order to create attractive and interactive instructional modules. In addition, she is developing its own virtual store with the purpose of making interactive and accessible educational materials available to educators. On the other hand, offers virtual classes of English as a second language. In her free time, she likes to read different literature. She hopes that, over time, it will make a difference inside and outside the Puerto Rico Educational System.
