Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)

UAGM Cupey

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). MSCHE is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. MSCHE conducts accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidacy status) activities for institutions of higher education in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and any other geographic areas in which the Commission elects to conduct accrediting activities, including the evaluation of distance education and correspondence education programs offered at those institutions. MSCHE accredits institutions across the United States as well as globally (MSCHE, 2021).

UAGM Cupey and the Middle States Self-Study Process

In the fall of 2020, the UAGM Cupey campus began the self-study process in preparation for reaccreditation, visit and evaluation by MSCHE in the Spring 2023. The campus Chancellor, Dr. Ángel Toledo appointed Dr. Zaida Vega, Director of International Affairs and Faculty, and Dr. Gisselle O. Tapia, Director of Licensing and Accreditations, Faculty and ALO, as Self-Study Chair and Co-Chair. In the same mentioned term, identified institutional representatives attended the MSCHE Self-Study Institute. At major campus events throughout 2020 and 2021, the Chancellor, Dr. Ángel Toledo, and Dr. Gisselle Tapia, ALO, informed the community at different levels of the reaccreditation process and invited the faculty and staff to take an active role in the self-study process and to engage students too.
